1869: - Clapham Rovers were founded following a meeting arranged by W. E. Rawlinson. Although now defunct the club were a prominent club in the 19th Century.
1931: -William Steel signed for Liverpool from St Johnstone after a month’s trial. He had played in 174 Scottish First and Second Division matches before moving to Liverpool.
1936: - Sea Weaver, transferred to Chelsea from Newcastle United.
1955: - Ipswich Town appointed Alf Ramsay as their new manager.
1983: - Gheorghe Hagi made his international debut for Romania in a 0-0 draw against Norway.
2006: - John Terry was appointed as the new captain of England by Steve McClaren, taking over from David Beckham.
