1936: - The FIFA Congress decided that France would be the host of the 1938 FIFA World Cup. Neither Argentina, France nor Germany withdrew their bids and the election took just one ballot. France received 19 votes, Argentina 4 votes and Germany 0 votes.
1982: - Robert Fleck joined Chelsea from Norwich City for £2.1million.
1986: - The Maltese Football Association officially opened its Sports and Technical Centre, which would be mainly used by the national team and the MFA Football Academy.
1997: - John Barnes joined Newcastle United from Liverpool on a free transfer despite having apparently agreed to join West Ham United.
