1891:- Vale of Leven were beaten 10-3 by Clyde. This was the first double-figure victory in the Scottish League.
1902: - The Uruguayan football club Montevideo Wanderers FĂștbol Club, usually known as Wanderers were founded.
1903: - Aberdeen played its first official match against Stenhousemuir. The game ended in a 1-1 draw.
1931: - Jack Atkinson signed professional forms for Bolton Wanderers. He became their regular centre-half from 1933 to 1949.
1959: - Ian St John scored 3 goals in 2 and a half minutes for Motherwell in a Scottish League Cup game at Easter Road against Hibernian.
1960: - Rochdale signed Ted Burgin from Leeds United, converting his initial loan spell into a permanent move.
1963: - Peter Dobing transferred from Manchester City to Stoke City for a fee of £37,500.
1992: - The new FA Premier League kicked off on the opening day of the season. The first Premier League goal scorer was by Sheffield United striker Brian Deane who opened the scoring in their 2-1 home win over Manchester United.
2000: - The Parkstad Limburg Stadium, home of the Dutch club Roda JC, was officially opened between a game between the home club, Roda JC and Real Zaragoza. The match ended 2-2.
