1890: - Renton beat Celtic 4-1 in the Scottish League with Cameron scoring the first goal in the Scottish League and the first for Renton. Although the clubs’ records were later deleted from the final League table after they were found guilty of “professionalism” and suspended after 5 matches it still stands as the first goal scored.
1938: - A.H. Gibbons signed amateur forms for Brentford. He returned to Brentford after the Second World War and became player-manager and then manager two years later.
1960: - Jack Overfield transferred from Leeds United to Sunderland. He scored a few minutes into his debut against Everton but didn’t manage to score in the other 42 League games he played in.
1966: - Alan Ball transferred to Everton from Blackpool for a record fee of £110,000. The forward who had been in England’s FIFA World Cup winning side two weeks earlier had played 116 times and scored 41 goals for Blackpool before his transfer.
1992: - Sky Sports broadcasted their first live Premier League when they showed Nottingham Forest against Liverpool. Teddy Sheringham scored the only goal of the game as Nottingham Forest won.
2001: - After 6 years of waiting Oxford United finally moved into their new 12,500-seater Kassam Stadium. Their arrival proved to be disappointing after Rochdale defeated them 2-1 in a Division Three match.
